Meet Shirley

Shirley Ann Jackson studies these tiny particles by conducting "thought experiments." Her laboratory is her mind and her tools are pencil, paper, and a computer. First she makes predictions about what will happen in an experiment. Then she asks "what if?" questions to come up with a problem to solve. She then solves the problem with mathematical formulas and her results are tested in physical experiments.
